Just a Coffee

She was slightly dizzy and chilled as they stepped back out. “Its two more blocks.” She nodded down the road. Sam blinked hard, trying to hide the dizziness as she pressed against his side, using him him to ground her now, her stubbornness not letting her just stop and ask for help.

She figured, as long as she kept moving until they got back to her warm home, she’d be fine. Would need something warm to drink and dry clothes and a blanket, but she would live.

He realized quickly that he’d taken too much of her heat, but it was too late to stop now. Instead, he turned, curled an arm around her, and lifted her up by the waist against his side. Then, against every instinct of energy conservation in the midst of the storm, he ran.

The two blocks flew by in a flurry of snowflakes, the storm fulfilling its promise in a sheet of white that seemed to come at them from all sides. “Which building?!” he yelled over the howling wind, squinting against the flurries. He was nearly done. She was weakened. They had to get inside, and NOW.

She pointed at the one two down from the corner. “I could’ve made it.” She muttered, fumbling for her key to let them in. She wasn’t someone who asked for help lightly, and instead gave all she could to those she felt deserved.

Inside the warmth of her home, once he put her down, she flipped lights on, only to get pounces by a white dog speckled with black and pale blue eyes.

“Hey, baby, I’m alright.” She soothed the dog. “Go say hello to Pi.” The Shepherd turned and looked at the male with intelligent eyes, before trotting over to him and biting his hand gently, eyes full of disappointment in him. She then stepped back and wagged her tail, tongue lolling out, much to Sam’s surprise. “I’ve never seen her act like that before..”
