Just a Coffee
She pointed at the one two down from the corner. “I could’ve made it.” She muttered, fumbling for her key to let them in. She wasn’t someone who asked for help lightly, and instead gave all she could to those she felt deserved.
Inside the warmth of her home, once he put her down, she flipped lights on, only to get pounces by a white dog speckled with black and pale blue eyes.
“Hey, baby, I’m alright.” She soothed the dog. “Go say hello to Pi.” The Shepherd turned and looked at the male with intelligent eyes, before trotting over to him and biting his hand gently, eyes full of disappointment in him. She then stepped back and wagged her tail, tongue lolling out, much to Sam’s surprise. “I’ve never seen her act like that before..”
“Yeah…okay.” His brow furrowed in thought, considering the canine cautiously. Did her dog just actually rebuke him? His gaze shifting from Sam to the dog and back, he shook his head, and headed to her instead. “Nice dog,” he soothed as he moved away, fully aware of its watchful eye.
“Here. Let me take your coat,” he offered, though of course it was an excuse to touch her. Not to take - this time he gave what heat he had left, sending it straight to her heart. He sighed at its leaving, and shivered. It would take him a few minutes longer to warm up, but they were out of the storm now, and he knew he would recover more quickly than she.
She shivered as she warmed up, curling up on the couch with a blanket. “I’ll make cocoa here in a little bit, just let me warm up some.” She began to peal off her damp layers, till she was in a tank top and panties, and wrapped a blanket around herself.
“All I ask, is that you tell me what you are, by the way.” She stood up and looked at Pi, blanket falling around her left shoulder, revealing her sparrow tattoo that swirled down onto her arm. “You’re welcome to stay as long as you like. Cap’s clothes that he leaves here might fit you.”
“You like hot chocolate, right?” She set about busying herself with setting up cups and filling them with powdered mix.
