Just a Coffee

“Them being? The Avengers? SHEILD? The answer is yes to both, by the way.” She took a drink, feet swinging against the counter. She felt her age for the first time in a long time, all the effect of the war and the drugs she’d done as a stupid teenager.

A look at her hand told her she was as ashy as she felt, but she ignored it. “When you’ve served as long as I have, you see weird shit. A while back, I was helping someone one.. and there was this thing I saw one night..” She’s staring into her cocoa, she finds it easier to speak if she doesn’t look at him.

“She looked as if she had bathed in blood, with massive wings decorated in gold chains and tiny rubies. And her eyes.. they were as black as yours. I shot her.. and it did nothing.. But I apparently amused her… and she let me and my charge go free, on one stipulation.”

“That I always believe.”

He refused to give in to the trickle of awareness that said he should somehow know this winged creature she described. Could it be a demon? Possibly. Probably. Maybe? Not one he had known, surely.

“It must be hard, to always believe.” He laid a hand on her ankle, stilling that one foot from it’s swinging movement. Now that he’d had a full cup of hot cocoa in him and the warmth of her apartment, he had enough of his heat back that he could give her more. Strong as he could already tell she was, he knew she wouldn’t ask - so he took the initiative.

Of course his brand of heat came with a side effect. As it washed through her it would feel like the fullblown rush of desire, like seeing your heart’s mate naked and waiting for you…

Selfishly he thought, you might believe in anything, and accept a demon easily - but how do you accept your own body’s needs?

The cup of cocoa slipped from her hands to shatter on the ground below as her body reacted to his touch. She was warm all over now, body aching to be touched and yet, despite the rattled breaths that left her now, eyes dilated till none of the color could be seen, she did nothing more than cross her legs, tucking them under her knees.

Her eyes closed as she took deep, shuddering breaths, trying to get back under control. Just because he inspired desire didn’t mean he actually wanted her. She smiled as she opened her eyes again and hopped off the counter, careful not to step in the ceramic shards. “Thank you.” She murmured, grabbing a towel to dry it up before she swept.

“You.” She pointed at the dog. “Stay out till this is clean.”
