An unexpected reunion

captainofthecosmos:

“And if I don’t… what are you gonna do? Shoot me? Seems like no matter the outcome, i’m the one that’ll be punished. Now tell me… that seem fair?”  He asked as a joke. His own mission to look for the specific crate in the back of his mind as he began playing the game with the freelancer.

Another part of his brain began to bother him, his curiosity. Something telling him he’d heard the voice before but… he couldn’t place it. Climbing a few crates he gain a good vantage point, catching a glance of her from the back.

“If that’s what I need to do, yes. I’ll pop a cap in that sorry pirate ass of yours.” She crouched onto of the crate with the Atlas Diamond in it, and glanced around, trying to find the asshole.

“Now tell me… that seem fair?”

The words echoed in her mind, niggling at an old memory, one she fought to keep down. Her best friend, Max, deemed a traitor for deserting after he had deemed the system unfair - and he had been right.

She had fought tooth and nail against that system, but after twenty years, she took her retirement and left.

And now she was here, facing down a damned pirate.
